9800GT on a BTX Mobo?

I've never done a video card upgrade before, so I'm looking for some help with this. I have a Dell and a BTX motherboard. Will this affect the video card compatibility? Specifically with a 9800GT? Thanks.|||as long as the mobo has pci-e it will fit the slot. Doesnt matter whether its 16x or 2.0 (2.0 is slightly better performance)

The only other factor to consider is that you have at least 450 w power supply and a free 12v rail (card requires power source other than slot power)

Video Card Recommendation for The Sims 3?

** I WILL CHOOSE BEST ANSWER!!!***

I need a better video card for gaming....specifically for playing The Sims 3...Read my PC's info and any advice or Video Card Recommendations (that are compatible with my PC would be GREATLY appreciated!!!)

My PC is pretty outdated...

Compaq Presario SR1720NX

Currently my PC is using ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series (I know, it's bad lol)

I recently added 1 GB of RAM so my PC meets all the requirements of The Sims 3 EXCEPT for the video card...I'm able to play the game, but it crashes often since I desperately need to update my video card.

The power supply for my PC is just 250 Watts...so that might limit me to the video cards out there...what's the best I can do with 250 Watts?

I would like to get another ATI Radeon Video Card...but I need some recomendations from people who know a little more about computers than I do....I need a video card that is compatible with my PC of course, but I have no idea how to tell if one is compatible...help please??

(Also I don't want to spend too much...less than $200 would be best...I need best (most decent lol) graphics for cheapest price)

The Sims 3 Requires:

Graphics card with 128 MB with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

Here's a list The Sims 3 Recommends:

ATI Radeon 9500 series, 9600, 9800, X300, X600, X700, X800, X850, X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950, 2400, 2600, 2900, 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870, 4850, 4870, Intel ® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) GMA Series 3 Series 4 GMA.

Based on my PC...power supply, video card compatibility....& best $price$ what would you recommend for me??|||Your motherboard has 1 pcie slot so that means it can support todays newest and greatest graphics card!

But your power supply is only 250 watts so you are very limited in your choices...

Also I am assuming you cpu is Sempron (P) 3500+ 2.0 GHz which is very old so you should not buy the most expensive card you can because your cpu will potentially bottleneck your graphics card. I got your cpu info from this link below

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec…

I would recommend this card. It is from the ATI 4000 series which is their newest models. $35

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

System requirements for the card are provided in the link below and it says 300w required but you will be fine with your 250 watt power supply.

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/g…

If you think you might want a new power supply to "play it safe" then this one should be more than enough. $30

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

I would just buy the card I listed if I were you.|||Geforce 7300GS 256MB Pcie

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F4P…

XFX GeForce 7300 LE Graphics

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sk…

Power Requirements:

7300GS models

Minimum of a 250 Watt power supply.

(minimum +12 Volt current rating of 18 amps)

http://www.evga.com/support/faq/?f=58058|||hmmm, i have the same pc sitting here as a back up...i have never upgraded it becuz of the power supply...it has an open pci-e x16 slot...

here is a 3450 for 42bux that will run it a lot better than the integrated video...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

thats really about the only card worth running in that system...might get medium settings....upgrading to 2 gigs of ram will help you out also...

in order to get a really decent card in there you would need to upgrade the power supply...not to mention the pc is at the end of its life cycle really...might wanna look for or start pricing a new pc....jmho....

Motherboard video card compatibility?

hey ive got all my pc parts picked out for my next build but i was wondering if these two parts are ok together...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

GPU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

also if im trying to make this build "future proof" so would you suggest getting a solid dual core or a lower speed quad processor and OC it with a better fan?|||Yeah those parts go well together, although make sure your case has enough slots, because the GTS 250 will take up 2 slots, and that mother board only has a PCIe x16 at the top, so there may be a problem there.

However, if you are willing to pay it, the GTX 260 is a far better card and much more future proof. Also, it comes with COD5, which covers the price increase:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Now for processor... If you plan to OC an E8400/E8500 would be the best bet for dual core. With a good heatsink and fan these guys will hit 4Ghz pretty easy.

If you plan to go for a quad-core (more future proof, but not much improvement in games yet) then a Q6600 is a very good OCer. It isn't being produced by Intel any more however and may be out of stock. In that case the Q9550 is only $20 more and is also a very consistent OCer. Either of those would be quite future proof (although it is impossible to tell how long for).

Hope that helps~

By the way, best heatsinks would be the ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE) or the Xigmatek "Dark Knight".|||yes they will work together but i would suggest getting a lower speed quad core and oc it but with a better HEATSINK cause intel heatsink is poo and a fan will lower temps by only a few degress. i reccomend a xigmatek darknight since they yeild low temps and is a bargain for price/performance ratio.

ps:i like amd and ati it would be way cheaper and just as good with more oc'ing potential.|||ok, yea, your mobo and graphics card is compatibly

Right now, if u buy that mobo, your computer will not be Future proof at all .

All the socket LGA775 processors are beings phased out.

it is bing replaced with Core i3, Core i5 and core i7

the Core i3 and i5 are going to be comming out in Q3 of this year, so by then your computer will have no more upgrades available

So if i were u, i would wait to build your comp, or go all our with Core 2

Video card compatibility?

Is a Gainward nVidia GeForce 9500GT, 512MB, DDR2, PCI-E video card compatible with A pentium 4 3.06GHz , 1.00 GO RAM or maybe a HIS ATI Radeon 4350, 512MB, DDR2, 64bit, Full HD1080p, HDMI, PCI-E..... please i need help ... any suggestions?|||Either card is compatible with a P4 processor, IF the motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot available to insert the video card into.

Video card compatibility question?

I have a Vostro 220 Dell computer running Windows 7 64-bit and considering upgrading my graphics card. I found this deal online:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13845_3-200124…

but I am not sure if it is compatible. Here are some links:

Power supply: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

PCI and PCI-E info:http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

System board and general info: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

Are they compatible? Thanks so much!|||You should actually spend more time actually reading the links instead of just posting them|||Your card is a PCIe card and your motherboard has a PCIs slot therefore it should work as far as installation goes. The only issue is that I was not able to find the specification for your power supply. It is a good idea to know that and compare it against your graphic card recommendations. If you open your computer case it is usually written on the side of the PSU what the wattage and other features are.

By the way it is a great card, alot of good reviews about it, but a little older and can not run newer games as it can not run DirectX11.

I hope this helps.

2 days ago - 1 day left to answer. - 0 answers - Report Abuse|||The links aren't fully written. However, just make sure that the motherboard and CPU have the same socket (AM2 in this case I believe). The 8800 should be fine as long as you have a PCI-E slot (NOT PCI). Also make sure that your case is long enough and has enough room to fit a massive 8800. I don't recommend mixing up brands of memory, you should stick to just one. And make sure the PSU is powerful enough. At least 700w with plenty of A on the 12v rail.

If it all works, you'll have a nice computer!

Help with Video Card compatibility, Athlon XP 2100 and mobo.?

Thanks to those who helped me find the best processor for this mobo. Now I need to know what video cards are supported. A Question of Video Card Compatibility?

So, for the first time I'm trying to build a computer myself, and I've been chatting with a friend at work and I think I have everything figured out except one thing. I'm planning on using a Micro ATX case because I want to intergrate this new system into my home theater and I want it to be mostly hidden away in the entertainment center.. I was advised that the video card I've selected might not fit into the case I'm looking at.

Does anyone know how I can tell if a video card is going to fit into a microATX case?

If you need it, here is the video card I'm looking at.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.|||get the specs of the case, then the specs of the card. good manufacturers will provide the length of the relevant section of the case on their website. You might want to consider a larger but prettier case such as a thermaltake soprano which is big but nice to look at - it will fit your card. or you could look at getting an 8500gt or something that should fit in the micro atx case - though not as good at gaming it would support blue ray and hddvd etc.|||first, that gpu is way more than you need. second, it depends on the case you choose, some are wider/taller or narrower/shorter (depending on the orientation of the motherboard) and have enough room for full-width cards, others require narrower ones. sometimes the dimensions of the card are listed... sometimes not. contact the manufacturer if you are really in doubt about the card size, then compare that to the case size|||No, it's fine, unless u pick graphic card from GTX series (which is really huge).

HP G70-246 Notebook PC video card compatibility?

Does anyone know what video card my laptop could use. I currently get 20-30 fps on games, and would like to know if i can get a video card for my laptop. Could you please link to the card on the web.|||Sorry but I don't think it is possible for this laptop.

This laptop is not using a deteicated video card, it is using an intergrated chipset to control the graphics. So there is no actual video card in there to upgrade or replace. Nor will there be any slot in there that can do that.

Nor is there any expresscard slot that could have been used to support the expressbox that could have support desktop grahpic cards as an external graphic cards.

How to fix video card compatibility issue?

Just bought a Radeon hd 5450 graphics card and after doing some research I figured out that despite the fact that they say pci express is backwards compatible, this graphics card which is pci-e 2.1 doesn't work in the intel 915 series pci-e 1.0, which is my motherboard (D915GAV to be exact). Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? p.s. I have already tried updating my BIOS and that does nothing.|||between pci-e 1 and 2.1 there are not only software diffrences but hardware diffrences, like 2.1 having have twice the bandwidth. no pcie 2.1 card will work in 1.0 the only thing you can do is get an older card or a newer motherboard

Video card compatibility?

I am planning on upgrading from a Radeon HD 5450 to a Radeon HD 6970, but i am not completely sure on compatibility. I am wondering if the new video card will be compatible with my computer.

A Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 motherboard, http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3761#sp.

I am running windows 7 ultimate 64 - bit|||It has PCIe x16 slots. Obviously compatible.

The HD 6970 2GB requires at least a 550w power supply with 34A on the 12v rail.|||It'll fit on your motherboard.

What we really need to know is what PSU you have

Edit: You need a - 550 Watt or greater power supply with one 150W 8-pin PCI Express® power connector and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended

Also the 6990, although a very good card, has a hideously high price/performance ratio. It's not worth the money. a 6950 will outperform that card at half the price.|||Well first that is called a motherboard and yes it is compatible. Video card compatibility?

I was just wondering if you could SLI two Nvidia cards from different series. I have an 8600GTX in my box right now, and I was looking at a really good deal on a 9400GT and I was wondering if its possible to SLI those two cards together or do they have to be from the same series or something. Thanks a lot everyone!|||No.

For nVidia's SLI, They must be the same model (eg 8600GTX), but they do not have to be the same brand (eg EVGA, XFX).

ATI's Crossfire does not follow these rules, and different models can be mixed together, with the faster card disabling functions to match the slower card.

Also, SLI'ing lowend cards like the 9400 will not give you much of a performance boost. You'd be better off getting one midrange card.|||Ki6 is correct. I currently run 2 SLI'd 6800 GTS cards. Old, but they meet what I do for gaming.

Video card compatibility?

I want to build myself a computer so I was having fun looking at the price Dell had to offer when I configured it to share my build's specs. Anyway, I noticed that when I had the OS selected to include an XP downgrade, it said that the video card selected (a GeForce 9800 GT) was not compatible. Is the 9800 GT really not compatible with XP? (Side question: What about Linux?)

PS: When I configured the Dell to have two hard drives of different size, it said that the two HDs must have the same specs. Does that really mean that I can't make a computer with two differently sized hard drives???|||not 100% sure, but i think you probably have a RAID1 (or something like that) selected, thats why you have to have 2 same sized hard drives.

you can have any diffrent sized hard drives in a computer, it doesnt matter. as long as the size is supported.

you can easily find out if the 9800 GT is supported by XP if you go onto Nvidia and try to find 9800 GT drivers for XP.

the 9 series of Nvidia cards (which 9800GT is covered in) is supported by XP and XP64bit, they have drivers for it.|||XP and 9800gt's are compatible.

try getting the latest driver and windows updates

http://www.nvidia.com

Your bios may be set for RAID go in and disable that. Some were shipped with it enabled just go disable it and you can use your drives normally.|||For answering your Video Card title, the Video Card is completely 100% compatible with XP. Reason I am so confident? Because if they didn't they have just lost 70% of the market. With the Hard Disk Drives, they do not necessarily have to be the same size, one can be used for everyday usage and the other as plain ol` storage.

With Linux of you graphics card, I highly do not suggest Linus with a Nvidia card as the drivers have horrible 2D performance making videos unwatchable.

Suggestion: Build your own computer (without the monitor) and with the same parts you can save yourself $1000.

http://www.newegg.com Gotta love that site.|||all graphics cards r compatible with XP !! all u need r drivers !! the guy whotold u this either didn't hav XP os with them or he wanted more profit out of U !! and yea u wont b able to use dx 10 on xp ! so there is a disadvantage of XP ((( !!!!!!!!! Also if you have any suggestions on what else I can do just write it down. Also I am specifically concerned with the motherboard and videos cards compatibility.

|||Looks good from here. But you may want to go with Windows Vista to take full advantage of that awesome video card (with DirectX 10)!

Don't let the Vista war stories scare you off. It's been out over a year now, it has matured and most of the bugs have been worked out. (It actually had LESS problems than XP did when it first came out!)

Go with Home Premium. Ultimate is not worth the extra $$

Oh Yeah, I didn't notice the RAM. If you're going 4GB the you need 64b version of your OS|||The Quad-Core Core 2 Extreme QX9775 isn't compatible and some of the other Quad Cores need a certain board revision according to Intel.

The motherboard and videos cards compatibility is ok.

The board went on sale in the fall of 2007 and has the ICH9 southbridge. The newer ICH10 chip is smaller (size) and will produce less heat. The board seem to lack heatpipes.

I like the newer Asus P45 boards. You might want to give them a look.

ASUS P5Q Motherboards

http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?…

|||First of all, with a build like this, I am going to assume that you are an extreme gamer thats going to want to play Crysis on High settings and what not

They're compatible but dam, lighten up on the motherboard and RAM.

DDR3 is expensive. Go with DDR2. You should go with a P31/P35 Motherboard.if your willing to spend $220 bukcks on a motherboard

For the RAM, you will most likely use a 32-bit Windows XP Professional. 4 Gigs of RAM on Windows XP 32-bit is a waste of money because Windows XP 32-bit will only utilize up to 3 gigs of RAM. 3 Gigs of RAM should be plenty. 2 GIgs of RAM is plenty.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… that shuld be ideal. You dont need anything over 800MHz RAM. It wont make much of a diffrence.

You dont need to spend so much on a processor. Get a Q6600(Core 2 Quad) and you can easily overclock that to 3.2Ghz. Dont forget about your fan since you didn't list that.

Vista or XP is your choice. Your most liekly going to get 32-bit of either versions anyways. 32-bit= only up to 3 gigs of RAM.

I'd go with Vista since it has DX10 capabilities.

Video card compatibility (specific)?

Will a GeForce 9400 GT work with a HP p6210f Desktop?|||It'll work. Your system has a pci express x16 slot and a 300W power supply.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum…

Newegg has it with higher clock speeds for less than Amazon, $52.99 ($47.99 after rebate) with free shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

I would recommend getting the 9500GT instead, it can also be bought for less than Amazon's 9400GT, as low as $54.99 ($39.99 after rebate) with free shipping. It uses exactly the same amount of power as the 9400GT (50W), but is twice as good a card.

Video card compatibility with my pc/ motherboard? Please help me.?

So i have a computer which has a media s1300 packard bell mainboard..with a AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 605e Processor. I was wondering which type of graphic card would be compatible? thank you|||It depends what size case you have (this would determine whether you need a "low profile" or a "full height" card), what type of "slots" you have (you can have PCI, PCI-X or PCI-E) and how powerful your computer power supply is.

If you can add this info, I'm sure I can make a recommendation!

Video Card Compatibility / Installation Issues?

Hi there, I have just bought an Nvidia GTS 450 and I had hoped to install it into my Pegatron M2N78-LA motherboard (it has an integrated Nvidia Geforce 9100), but whenever I try booting up my computer with the card in, my monitor stays idle and my computer boots for about a minute before it crashes.

Before installing my new card, I went into the device manager and disabled my integrated chip in safemode, powered off my system, and then popped my card in.

A word of note: the first time i tried installing my new Nvidia, I accidentally chose to Uninstall the integrated card on the Device Manager rather than disabling it, but the next time I booted my system without my new card in it, it automatically downloaded drivers for the integrated card and seemingly works fine.

I've narrowed my problem down to two possible options:

1. My new GTS 450 is incompatible with my motherboard

2. The drivers for my new hardware are all f*cked up

If you could give me any advice at all that may help, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!|||Boot into VGA mode, then install the drivers.

Help with video card compatibility-emachines T5082 and GeForce 8600 GT?

Will i be wasting my money on a 100 dollar paperweight, or will it work like it should?|||Ya it will fit... but i think it would be better to buy the piece at www.newegg.com, iv been buying pieces from it for some years now and it surely has the best prices.

Motherboard and video card compatibility help...?

ok.so, I have a pretty outdated motherboard (Asus M2NPV-VM) and i was wondering if i could throw in one gtx 260 video card, i thought the it cannot be supported because of the video card's GDDR3, everything else should support it though...( if this video card is not supported please tell me a decent video card that can be...)

thanx|||The video card's GDDR3 doesn't have to do with the motherboard's compatibility. You're thinking about DDR3 RAM, which your motherboard doesn't support as you know.

I did some research and it looks like your motherboard will support the GTX 260 but you have to make sure you have a power supply unit that is strong enough to power the card (around 450-500w).

Oh btw, are you still planning on going to Stevens? They give you a sick *** laptop (C2D, BluRay, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 9800M (similar to the GTX260)) I'm expecting to begin attending in Fall 09. But it's a pretty expensive school. I'm thinking about Bergen Comm. for 2 years and then maybe transfer out to another school.|||i dont know much about computers actually but i am learning here and there... i need to learn the basics first so...i pretty much have a good idea of what every hardware part does tho :)

|||The type of memory a video card uses has no ties with the type of memory your motherboard supports. So I don't see why it couldn't support the GTX 260, as long as your have a power supply that can support it that is.

Video Card Compatibility?

Would a Dell Dimension 4600C be compatible with Sapphire Radeon HD 3870? I'm not sure what mobo is in there but the tower looks like this: http://www.hardwarecentral.com/graphics/screenshots/1058554933160slim302.jpg|||Hi,

The dimension 4600 C has a AGP 8x slot and PCI slots in it. Since its a slim tower you can only put low profile cards in it. The card that you mentioned I don't think will fit your computer.

Please click on link below to find the AGP cards that you can install in your system:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

The best among them was HD 3450 for $44.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

You can also go for PCI cards if you have a slot empty in your tower:

Here are the list of PCI cards that I found could be installed in your system:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

If you have a PCI slot empty and a budget of $60-100 than please go for PCI cards as it will give you more options and performance.|||I need to point out that ЯõČҝỵ†ŗυÊĽÿяóЖ gave you the specification for the Dimension 4600 MID-TOWER case, not the Dimension 4600C slim-line case. The cards he lists will not work with the 160 power supply in the slim-line case. They will all fit, like I said. They just won't power up. Be careful!!

|||The HD 3870 will not work in your Dell Dimension 4600C. I'm afraid it is too tall for your slim-tower case.

Looking over the specifications of the Dell Dimension 4600C, I noticed the power supply has only 160 Watts*. As far as I know, there are no modern graphics cards that will work with a power supply that has so few Watts.

If you are going to go shopping for a graphics upgrade for your system (which is a very good idea) please keep the minimum power supply requirement of the card in mind. Even a decent card like the HD 3450 needs a 300 Watt power supply.

I wish I had better news. Sorry.

Video Card Compatibility.?

Ok, So i Just Recently Figured out that i have a PCI Express x16 Slot inside my computer. But all the cards i see around now all have PCI express 2.0 slots. Will a PCI Express 2.0 card work in my PCI Express x16 Slot? I have the motherboard DG31PR Intel Motherboard with Quad Processor. So just wondering. Thanks|||All versions of PCI Express are backwards compatible with each other. You just won't get the extra bandwidth that PCI Express 2 gives you.|||Yes, a PCI 2.0 will work in your PCIx16 slot, but the PCI x16 is a slower interface and might not fully utilize the power of whatever you're using.|||Yes...But don't get a card that will bottleneck because of your CPU...Meaning don't get a card too fast because your processor can't keep up with it.

Video Card Compatibility... i need help on this...?

i am having Asus P5KPL-AM SE Intel core Quad Q8200 @2.33Ghz and my current graphic card is Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT PCI-E 2.0 and the width is single slot. i am looking at Nvidia Geforce GT440 PCI-E 2.0 x 16 dual slot for the upgrade.I dont know if my motherboard is compatible with GT 440.

Can anyone help??|||Gt 440 does't need any external power connector and u can use it on ur board without any problems as long as u have pci-e 2.0|||its not the mobo that needs to be compatible, its the power supply.

so long as the case has room for the double width card and you have

enough power supply connectors for it(each oem version may be

different in the connectors it offers) then you should be fine.

make sure you pick a model with the best external connectors

DVI is dying out, HDMI is nice to have, but

DisplayPort is taking over, but you need DP connections on lcd's|||Yes!! you won't have any problem with the card adjusting to your motherboard. Go for it!

Thanks in advance!|||You only need an available SLOT..

There really is no compatibility..except that some things you may attempt in a graphics environment--will require hardware..

You need to remove the Graphics Card..

You need to re-install your integrated video card..

Once that's completed..

Do a Restart and TAP(repeatedly)..F-2..

You will OPEN..the System Set Up Program..

Now look for your Video Adapter..(use your ARROW-Keys)<<-->>

To flip thru the pages of the System Set Up Program..

The ARROW Keys will also move your CURSOR for you---up and down..

===

OK..find the Video Adapter and Choose--AUTO..

..this will allow the computer to choose the BEST..video solution..

If your Video Card is installed in the SLOT--it will be chosen..

..if NOT..the integrated video card will be chosen..

This can be a helpful--setting..later you can try the selection for the installed video card alone..

===

OK...you have used the Setting for AUTO--now use the SAVE Changes--and--EXIT..keystroke..

Be very careful that you have NOT--changed any other setting--be very careful//

===

Shut Down the PC..

Install the NEW Video Card..

Connect the Monitor..

..and Start your PC..

You should have normal operation..

You reach your desktop--let all the drivers LOAD..

Wait about 5-minutes..

Then use the CD that was delivered with your NEW Video Card..

Register the Product..

..then go to the MFG. website for the latest drivers.

Video Card Compatibility?

Just so I don't buy a non-compatible card for my desktop, what exactly am I looking at to make sure the card and the computer will match?|||Most important thing is the video card slot.

If you have a PCI express slot, you can fit only a PCI express card in there. If you have AGP, get an AGP card, etc.

Next is make sure your power supply is powerful enough to power the card.

Lastly, make sure it's compatible with your platform: Windows, Mac OS X, etc. but you can usually get drivers for the different platforms.|||you need to know what type of video slot your motherboard has (agp vs pci vs pci express)

Video card compatibility in the MB?

does the MB say what kind of video card it has like pci, agp, or pci-e?|||NO.... The MB is just the memory size and its not called MB its called VRAM....

To know whether it is compatible just check whether its PCI-E, AGP, or PCI... Most new ones are PCI-E 2.0 and 1.0 and the old ones more likely AGP 8X and PCI is likely extinct in terms of seperate cards. PCI graphics slots survives on integrated graphics solutions... those use PCI

Aslo the more VRAM the better the performance. Also type of VRAM plays an important role. GDDR5 is currently the highest and fastest.Settle anywhere between GDDR3 to GDDR5 though if your on a budget and GDDR2 is the only choice against like SDRAM or GDDR go for it...

Video card compatibility with my computer?

Okay, I want to buy a EVGA Geforce 8600gt graphics carde for my pc computer but i don't know if it's compatible or not. The website says that it's PCI and I don't know if my computer has that slot or not. My full system name: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Can my computer use this video card?|||It won't be compatible. it is running an AGP interface slot and the 8600GT is a pcie interface slot. the best agp card You can buy are either a 7600HX for nvidia or a 3850 for ati.

Hope this helps

EDIT: The card is PCI express not PCI, big difference, the card will not work for you sorry. PCI is a much older form of expansion, but they do make cards for those, though none of them work very well, nor will oyu find them anymore.

Your computer has one AGP slot, the long green or blakc one.

It has a couple of PCI slots. they are the not so long stubby white ones.

Video card compatibility?

Will a DDR2 video card (like the GeForce 8500 GT) work on a computer that runs standard DDR ram|||The type of ram used for your system has no bearing on what kind of video ram (the type on the 8500GT) can be used. So yes, in that case you should be fine.

What you should be concerned with when looking for a new video card is making sure you have the proper interface slot open. In this case, a PCI Express slot for the 8500GT. Also make sure your power supply unit can handle this upgrade. These newer cards can eat up a lot of power.|||yes it will. it just depends if your power supply is up to the job eg has enough wattage left. and if your motherboard has the available slot for the card.

Video Card Compatibility?

Hey guys! I'm ordering an HP 360z. It uses an AMD chipset, and has a 450-485 watt power supply.

My question is, seeing as the cards they offer aren't really... good... what can I replace it with? It's an Asus motherboard, compatible with both nVidia and ATI, but being an AMD chipset, it's supposedly best to use the Radeon card. The one they offer as their best card for this setup is the 2gb 5570. It *does* have a second PCIE slot, and a second 5570 should be able to fit inside comfortably. Will I be abusing my power supply if I go SLI, (if so, how do I make my computer compatible?) and what kind of card can I upgrade to safely. Thanks!|||does the motherboard support crossfire? if not, then your second card wont do anything, see about getting a 5770, the 5570 will be a bit of a let down i think.|||it will not be sli capable, amd chips don't have that capability. Also, it only has 1 pcie x16 slot meaning only 1 high performance graphics card will be able to be used. there are grapihcs cards for 1x slots which this model has 3 of, but they are low end chips. so no sli or crossfire capability at all and you shouldn't do anyway with the power supply it comes with. you could get a mid range graphics card, a radeon 5770 might be about the highest end i would go, if you get one, make sure it will fit in the case, they can be rather large, check the card dimensions in specs but it would probably be ok.

It has 4 total pcie slots, but there are different classes. 4 of them actually. x16, x8, x4, and x1. x16 is for high end graphics cards and not much else. x8 is also able to handle high end cards but it usually is only seen on boards with sli or crossfire capabilities, x4 is for lower end stuff and i haven't seen much that uses it specifically, and x1 is for low end things like sound cards, ethernet cards, tv tuners, and low end graphics chips.

This computer's specs page says it has 1 x16 slot and 3 x1 slots. meaning no crossfire or sli. your power supply should be able to handle the 5770, it seems to recommend a 450w power supply.

Video Card Compatibility. Help?

I've been meaning to upgrage my GeForce 9400 GT Graphics Card to a much better one.

I have two options: GeForce GT 440, or GeForce GTS 450 (Over Clocked)

Now my question is: "Are either one of them compatible with my Processor, which is an 'AMD Athlon™ X2 240 @ 2.81 GHz'?"

For my motherboard... I might have to edit it in, because I don't quite remember (I'll have to check it later on)|||I went here http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_gef… to view the specifications of your original video card.

Then I went here http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-gef… to view the specifications of the GeForce GT 440 video card.

Then I went here http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-gef… to view the specifications of the GeForce GTS 450 video card.

The GTS 450 requires an extra 100 Watts over the GeForce 9400 and the GeForce GT 440. So, you'll need to accommodate that with a decent PSU. Other than that, they're all compatible with your PCI-E 2 video slot. They can all work with Intel or AMD CPUs, although I did not see any minimum CPU GHz requirements for any of these cards.

Video card compatibility?

I was just wondering if my computer would be compatible with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO. I have a Intel Rohaws D915GRO as the motherboard. It has a PCI-e slot and the power supply as a max power of 305W but a max combined power on 5v and 3.3v of 150W. I only have 1 harddrive and 2 filled DIMM slots. So based on those specs do I have enough to use that video card?|||Get an HD3650 card instead.

The HD2600Pro is old-- It is an 80-nanometer GPU that runs hotter and uses more power. The HD3650 is a half-node 55-nanometer GPU and uses a MEASLY 50 watts of power, and runs a lot cooler.

Get the HD3650 and it will work beautifully with your existing power supply. It will perform a bit better than the HD2600 Pro, and cost about the same.

I recommend this HD3650 if you want the more expensive GDDR3, because it has a nice dual-slot cooler that is virtually silent: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you want the cheaper GDDR2 memory, this HD3650 costs only $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

(You will note that the HD2600 Pro also has GDDR2 and GDDR3 versions that cost about the same as their HD3650 counterparts).|||Sounds like your PSU is a little on the light side. I run the same video card on pretty much the same board and my PSU is 600w.

Video Card / Desktop PC Compatibility Question.?

I'm currently looking to replace my desktop computer. I already have the monitor and other external accessories, so I figure my best bet is to go with a bundle from Future Shop / Best Buy.

Now, I need a bit of help regarding video card compatibility, without too much technological mumbo-jumbo, because I'm not too talented with that stuff.

Here's a desktop that's in my price-range (actually, even a bit over my price range):

HP Pavilion AMD Phenom X4 9550 Quad-Core 2.2GHz Computer (A6650F) ($749.99)

(Link: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10114689&catid=)

Now, I plan on playing World of Warcraft: WotLK pretty extensively, enough to warrant having a high powered, quiet, and durable card to run it at full video settings at a high resolution.

Here's a video card I'm considering upgrading to:

BFG Geforce 8600 GTS 256MB PCIe Video Card ($143.99)

(Link: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10098942&catid=)

Now I have 2 questions:

1) Can this video card be attached to the motherboard of this computer without a problem? This is my main problem, I haven't ever really learned about motherboard compatibility, and I don't want to make a mistake in purchasing this card.

2) Do you believe that buying this card is a good investment, or would the one built into the PC do an excellent job for WotLK since it's based on a game from 2004?

If you can answer even 1 of these questions, I'd be very appreciative! Thanks a lot.|||Hi, firstly, the standard graphics on that pc (i used the cat. number to find the pc) are integrated - which will not run any newer games (inc. WoW). The card you have picked out is compatible, however it's not a particullarly good card for gaming. You really want to be looking at an nvidia 9600gt minimum to make it a worthwhile investment. If necessary, i would strongly suggest getting a computer with a cheaper processor (barely anything utilizes even 2 cores let alone 4) unless you plan on doing any heavy video editing and put the saved money into a better graphics card - which is THE most important feature where gaming is concerned.

As long as the processor is a dual core, preferably an intel one clocked over 2.4Ghz, it will be more than enough for a good long while.

Hope that helps|||I cant actually open the link but I would go with a PCI-E video card. The motherboards video card is actually weaker then a PCi-E equivalent in most cases, although i would recommend a 9600gt or 9800 gtx

It is a nice card, reasonably powerful, good price, good all round.

AS for your motherboard, i haven't heard of a reasonable desktop on the market then can't support a PCI-E video Card you should be fine for that

And go somewhere else for the video card like newegg or tigerdirect|||Ok

Well you first problem is none of the links work =D

Second problem is we can't tell you unless we know what motherboard you have, and what power supply you have.

I am guessing that your computer is about 2-3 years old so I think the card should fit in the slot, but yo might need a special slot for it to work ( that slot comes off your power supply.

Also I think you should upgrade and get the 9800 GTX

Its a way better card for the same price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

you can email me at wdlax11@gmail.com

just send me what motherboard you have and I will tell you.

From what I assume it should work if your motherboard has a PCIe slot

The Vista drivers will work fine on windows 7|||i'd suggest getting a 256 mb or more because its hard enough to run efficiently on vista with 128 mb while multitasking.|||Make sure the video card you are buying has a driver compatible with Windows 7. You can find this out on the manufacturer's website.

You need an AGP card, as that is what slot your mobo has.

Here's a list of AGP video cards you can check to see if there are Win 7 drivers for.

Vista drivers might work for you too.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…|||It's going to be a little difficult to upgrade however. You are using a standard PCI from what the HP site has (1 AGP, 3 PCI). PCI Express is today's technology and more so than PCI.

Praying your power supply is 400W:

Unfortunately no 450Ws other than PCI Card. They don't mention the wattage on most of these.

Video card compatibility?

My computer model is an Acer Aspire E380, and I'm currently running 4g of ddr2 ram, 250W power supply. I would like to know if this card

...would work in my machine. And If not maybe some suggestions as to what would work and come close to that?|||Your power supply is pretty weak. You might need to upgrade your power supply to get a video card like that working.|||You can install the GPU, but make sure your case is big enough to provide it (size-wise) and that you got enough cooling for it. Of what I can see the case is a standard mid-tower with 1 front intake and and 1 exhaust fan. Help yourself and keep temperatures notified with NvTempLogger: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php… (Program to tell temperatures on nvidia based GPUs).

Also, you wanna consider upgrading PSU. A smooth quality 400-450W will easily handle your system. Look at Corsairs VX450: http://www.corsair.com/products/vx.aspx|||If you're looking to upgrade your graphics card, you're going to need a new power supply to prevent issues with system instability. Try to get some money together for at least a 400W power supply, and that card would work wonders. Otherwise, a lighter weight card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… could work out for you, but 250W is so low, even that might be pushing the limits. Good luck

Can any techs out there tell me if a nvidia ge force 7300gt 512mb vid card on an agp slot would be compatible with the native resolution of the fairly new samsung t220 monitor? thanx|||Check the box your video card came in, or go to the maker's website, and see if the supported video mode resolutions match or exceed your monitor's resolution. If it does, then you have half of your answer...

The other half is: What are the video hookups on the card and the monitor? The main ones used are VGA ("D" shape with 15 pins) and DVI (long rectangle). If they match, or if the card includes a DVI-to-VGA adapter, then there should be no real problem.

Thanks |||do exactly what he said you need a better CPU to run the 9600 GT

which means you'll have to buy a new motherboard for your computer and CPU you need a 64 bit dual core or quad core processor in your system and RAM is important as well you'll also need maybe a 530 watt-620 watt ATX power supply for the graphics card you want to get

and about the RAM you'll need at-least 1GB-4GB PC2 6400 to PC2 8000

you'll pretty much need a complete upgrade on your system|||Youre gonna have to find out if ur motherboard supports PCI express 1.0 or 2.0....

Without either, u wont be able to use it.

Your CPU is WEAK!!! SOrry, but its the truth, getting a powerful card like the 9600gt wont be a very good idea. Ur CPU will slow down ur 9600, and u will lose a lot of performance. Ur best bet is to just by a upgradeable PC, and the 9600 separately. U will be much happier... Here are some really good combos...

GOOD UPGRADEABLE PCs:

2. Better

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

3. Best

Laptop video card compatibility?

My laptop screen is cracked beyond repair. And now my vga prt that i was using to connect to my external monitor has broken. I've seen a technician and they told me that its broken due to wear and tear. Anyway, i've been using an old xp laptop for a few months now. I've just realised that the vga port is attached to the video card in the laptop! So all I need is a new video card. Are all video cards universal? Like is it "One size fits all" sort of thing? I was looking to remove the video card from the toshiba XP laptop into my xp e system laptop. Will this work? Or do they have to be the same video cards? One thing i dont want is to install software etc, i cant as i cant see the laptop screen to do it. Thats why i need an external monitor.|||Time to get off the dreamland express! Your laptop graphics are integrated on the motherboard. You would have to replace the entire board. Furthermore, It seems to me that you arent very handy with delicate tools like laptops.

Video Card Compatibility?

I am planning to get a new video card for my Compaq Presario C771us laptop. Currently, my laptop has Intel GMA X3100. This is the first time I try to replace any computer component by myself so I want to know what kind of compatibility issues I should be aware of. I have read through some of the websites and learned about something like PCI-express and something about the power supply of the PCI. Where should I look for these information for my laptop? And do you guys have any recommendations on which video card I should get? (I am planning to get a new card because I am afraid that I will not be able to play the upcoming resident evil 5 on my laptop). Any answers are appreciated. Thanks in advance!|||You cannot upgrade the video card in a laptop without changing the whole logic board (which is usually not worth the cost).|||you cant put in/replace a laptop video card.

Video card compatibility question?

will the nvidia 9800gtx work with an acer aspire am5640? and if not why not?|||Your system will support it, the only problem that you will encounter is your case. The card is pretty long. Motherboard and Video Card Compatibility?

I have a Dell 435MT, the board is a Dell Inc. 0R849J A00

I am running a 4850HD, 4gb ram, i7 920, with a small 360watt powersupply

The motherboards documentation is shown here. http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/435MT/en/SM/techov.htm#wp1194395

I have already been told this is possible for me to do in a previous question I have asked, but I have been told differently, and that's that I will not be able to get a back panel I/O to fit the 435's motherboard configuration.

So, I would like to know if this is possible, and with which case, the Haf 922/Antec 900. I would not like to have to buy a new motherboard at the time being, the card/psu/case is pretty much all my current budget.|||I am leaning towards no. It is not the back panel of the motherboard lining up with the opening on the back of the tower that makes me think no but all the stuff on the front of the new tower that will need to be connected to the motherboard. Power button, headphone jack, mike jack, USB ports, etc. The tower will most likely have a bunch of individual wires for most of that stuff and a 9 pin connector for the USB ports that will need to be hooked up to the motherboard for all those things. The Dell tower looks like it has plastic connectors for all those things that plug into the motherboard. Hope this helps. Battlefield 2 Video Card Compatibility?

Hey, I was going to buy Battlefield 2 for my PC, but I kept on reading on how the game was really picky about the video card. I searched for my card but didn't find any info, so I was wondering if a Geforce Go 7700 would be compatible. Thanks.|||It will be compatible, but don't expect any fantastic performance. You will probably have to put the settings at either medium or low to get decent framerates.|||It's not that the game is picky, it's that the game needs a fairly powerful card to run it well.

The GF go7700 should run it fairly well.

Video card compatibility issue?

I have an asus p5n-mx motherboard which has an nvidia chipset. I bought a radeon hd5670 which unfortunetly seems to have some driver compatibility issue with the nvidia chipset. It causes a boot fail/POST test error. Now considering i can just press f1 and continue to the operating system, this normally would not be a big deal except because of this boot error, my overclocks in my bios no longer take effect when the operating system starts. Now i don't need people telling me "don't overclock blah blah blah" i do it, thats that. What i am asking, is there a way to stop this compatibility issue without buying a new motherboard or video card. I have already tried reinstalling all latest drivers, and flashing my bios. Everything already suggested by others who suffered the problem but with no success. I would appreciate some ideas or solutions if known. side note, this issue seems to happen for alot of people with the 5000 series cards so maybe someone has fixed it.|||Yeah, this is why i bought a GTS250 instead...

Heres an idea, research the cards reliability before buying one. Try send it back and buy an Nvidia card.

Thanks in advance!|||there may be a issue with the slot compatibility the motherboard runs a psi express x16 graphics slot 1.0

The computer you are buying already has a soldered-on onboard video card already included, but yes, these two will work together. Just make sure you put the card into the PCI Express x16 card slot on the motherboard. The manual that may come with the computer should tell you how to put cards in the slot that they are compatible with. Also a bonus, this card is capable of combining the power of itself and the onboard card, so they will make your computer better at processing video.

Any additional suggestions would be super, or just tell me that the video card is incompatible so I can stop this madness of install/uninstalling and move on. Video Card compatibilities?

So this game recommended Nvidia 8000 series but futureshop only sells laptops with Radeon.. So how would I know which Raadeon series is compatible with Nvidia 8000 series?|||Nvidia 8000 series was several years ago. Since then, they've had 9000 series, then back down to 200, then 400, now 500 series. So really, any new laptop with a Radeon that's x4xx (where the 2nd digit is at least 4) or better should be good for gaming. The first digit will be the overall generation (5 or 6 currently) while the 2nd digit really indicates the performance level to some extent.

Btw, online I see Futureshop also sells laptops with Nvidia graphics. Anything x4x or better should be good for gaming.

it wont be able to run everything maxed out probably, but it will run close to high and smoothly :) as long your cpu isnt too lacking or your monitor resolution isnt insane like a 23+inch 1080p monitor.

Video Card compatibility?

Hi.

I have a computer which has a motherboard that's PCIe compatible and I'm currently using an Nvidia 6800GTS graphics card.

Does this mean that virtually any PCIe card is able to be put into my computer, or are there other factors determining what I can and can't use?|||any pci express card can fit into your computer, but not pci express 2.0. there are diffrent types of express (1x, 16x etc.), but they will all fit, unless its pci express 2.0 16x or 2.0 1x, they use smaller pins.

i want to buy a XFX GeForce 9600 GT Extreme Edition DDR3 PCIe

my motherborad take PCIe but aim worried about the DDR3 can my motherboard take it or not by the way idk what is the name of my motherboard but i think it's HT2000 or some like that if you want to search for it!|||Firstly, the 9600GT has GDDR3, which is independent to the system memory which is most likely DD2.

If you download a small program (it doesn't even need to be installed, just run the exe) called CPU-Z it will tell you information about your processor, motherboard and RAM, post the information from the "mainboard" tab and I can identify whether you can run the card.

Another issue you may want to think of is the PSU, and whether your current one will have enough current (lol) to power it.

Video Card Compatibility?

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB40 and I want to update the video card. I thought I had figured it out so I purchased a Sapphire - ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card but it doesn't fit! I really need help picking out a video card. I don't want to pay more than $70 for it. The reason I am upgrading is because I play a few games such as Crossfire and when I play I get about 25fps while my friends get upwards of 100fps. Please help me pick out a new card?

Here is a link to my computer stats: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/specs/VGCRB40_mksp.pdf

Thanks for the help!|||I would go with a low profile card. I heard the fermi 430 card is good for gaming.

Video card compatibility?

I have a 2008 dell studio slim 540s. I believe the power is 240w, will the Sapphire Radeon HD4650 1 GB DDR2 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card 100254HDMI

or the MSI Radeon HD 4350 512 MB DDR2 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card MD512H

work with my system? The primary reason for these cards is to connect the pc with my tv via a HDMI cable, games are not played a lot on my pc. Will the required power for either card be a problem?|||The Sapphire 4650 won't work because that's a standard height card, and slimline computers (of any brand) can only accept low-profile cards. Regular cards are too tall.

The 4350 would fit, and work. You'd just have to attach the low-profile bracket instead of the standard bracket. Looking at the photos, the HDMI port is below the top of the card edge, so it would still be accessible with the low-profile bracket attached.

In terms of power, the 240W power supply is dicey for a 4650, but it's more than enough for the 4350. It's also more than enough for a 5450, which is a better choice than either:

Personally I prefer the Gigabyte card because it's fan cooled, which is more efficient than passively cooled cards which only have a heatsink.

Video card compatibility?

I'm trying to buy a new video card for my computer.. but I have no idea what to buy. After doing some research, I found out that there are PCI, AGP, and PCI Express video cards. How do I know which one will work with my computer? It's a gateway and I bought it in 2001.

thanks.|||PCI and AGP are old technologies for a video card. Your computer most likely uses an AGP slot for video. The best way to verify that is to refer to any manuals included with the computer and if you don't have those available check the gateway website under support and enter your serial number for Computers prior to 2004. You can also google your Model Number and see what information comes up.

After determining if it uses AGP then go to www.newegg.com and search for AGP video cards. There are still a few out there being sold.|||2001 Gateway, hopefully AGP but it is very possible you have onboard graphics in which case the only option would be PCI and if that is the case don't waste your time or money. Would need to know the model number of your Gateway to help further.|||It depends on what expansion card slot is in your system, we could find the specifications of that computer if you tell us the make and model.|||It won't be PCI Express; it is much to new to be found in a PC made in 2001. It will either be AGP, PCI Express or integrated graphics. You need to know what computer you have as you may not be able to upgrade the graphics at all. Some computers were just not made to be upgradeable.

Video Card Compatibility?

I have an HP a6230n computer from 2007, 2 years ago i upgraded my video card to 8600GT and my PSU to 430W. Now I'm planning on upgrading my video card into at least a GTX 260. is my motherboard able to take that? I probably have to upgrade my power supply too, but my main concern is the compatibility of that card. thanks in advance for the advices.|||lilrapkid is way off base. You can use a pci-e 2.0 x16 card in a standard pci-e x16 slot. The 2.0 is a data transfer rate improvement that, even though your system may not be able to take advantage of the improvement, is backward compatible with a standard pci-e x16 slot. I know, I've been running a 9600GT that is a pci-e 2.0 x16 card in one of my systems that has a standard pci-e x16 slot for over a year now. Also, you don't need "at least a 600W psu", a decent 500W~550W psu will work so long as it meets the cards requirements. You'll need to check the cards specs, some say they need at least a 500W psu with two 6 pin pci-e power connectors with a 36A 12V rail and some say you need at least a 525W psu with two 6 pins and a 38A 12V rail. On this link click on the Specifications tab for each card and you'll see what I mean.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

A good choice for a power supply upgrade would be Corsair or Antec.

You'll need to make sure that you have enough room inside your system for a GTX 260, these are large cards that measure 4.5" (114mm) tall x 1.5" (38mm) wide x 10.5" (267mm) long. It only uses one slot but it's a double wide card that will most likely block the slot below it, and because of it length, you may need to move your sata cables to other ports. I have two GTX 260's in my game rig, but it has right angle sata ports so it didn't affect my cables but I did have to move my hard drive bay over a little to accommodate them (mid tower case, ATX board).

Edit

Yeah, there's absolutely no problem with using a pci-e 2.0 x16 card on a motherboard that has a pci-e x16 slot, like I said, the 2.0 card is backward compatible with a standard x16 slot.

Don't forget to measure the inside length to make sure there isn't a conflict with your hard drive bay, that card is 10 1/2" long.|||it depends on your motherboards card slots. the gtx260 is a PCI-E 2.0 card so if your mother board doesnt have that then it will not work period. also you will want a power supply that is atleast 600watts. as far as i know any mother board that supports a video card's slot type will support the card, though i could be completely wrong.

If i use pcie v2 video card on a pcie v1.1 motherboard slot, will i lose any performance?

pcie v2 video card compatibility with pcie v1.1 mobo|||If your talking about cards like GTX 260, GTX 280, 4870, 4850 then yes, but not by much.

Worst case you will only be losing 10% of performance which translate to

5-10 fps in real world gaming.|||It really depends on the video cards you are using. If they are high end cards with fast GPUs (graphics Processing Unit) then they can render all the graphics using very little of the computers CPU time. If, on the other hand, the video cards aren't really high end then they will need more of the computers CPU time to process the graphics. In that case the overall performance of the computer could be affected.|||Not really. Most PCI-E cards can't even use all the bandwidth provided by the 1.1 slot. The "PCI-Express 2.0" is a buzzword that doesn't really mean much of anything.
