Buying a new video card, checking motherboard/video card compatibility!?

Ok so I decided to buy a new graphic card.

My motherboard is Asus P5GD1 Pro.

My current graphic card is nVIDIA GeForce PCX 5750.

I want to buy a VGA PCI-E Nvidia GF8400GS 256MB DVI/HDTV graphic card.

Specs:VGA POINT OF VIEW GeForce 8400 GS PCI Express X16 Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS

256MB/64bit GDDR II SDRAM(512MB supported), 450MHz(core)/600MHz(mem),

1xVGA, 1xDVI, 1Video-OUT, VGA Cooler + Drivers

My Bus type is PCI Express 1.0 x16 @ x16

Now my question is if my motherboard and this GF8400 are compatible or not and if I should only look at the gpu bus type,or if I should look at some other stuff too;like RAM and CPU.

(RAM:Bus Type Dual DDR SDRAM

1,50 GB

CPU:Intel Pentium 4 530, 3000 MHz (15 x 200))|||There are really only three things to consider when upgrading your video card:

Motherboard compatibility - you're okay on this one. It's a PCI-E card, and you have a PCI-E motherboard. You also want to make sure your motherboard has enough SATA connectors. Some higher-end cards will require two of them, and this can be a problem if they're being used up by things like hard drives as well.

Power Supply - make sure you have enough wattage to drive a higher-end video card. I would recommend at least 400-450w as a bare minimum. Super high-end cards will require even more wattage.

Case room - Nice video cards can be quite large. Get the dimensions of your case and and the card you want and make sure that the card you're looking at will fit inside.|||That new gpu should be fine, as long as the card is pci express and so is your motherboard it will work, one thing you might have to look out for though is the power requirements of your new card. because you system is so old your power supply might not be able to handle the extra power needed by the graphics card. what size power supply do you have?|||Spend just a little more on a 9600GT or a 9800GT... You will not be disappointed. You will if you buy an 8400...

9800GT

It's not what you would call a "gamer" but it should be better than your previous card.|||yea the only thing which matters is slot size, but make sure your new graphics card will fit your case. It has been known to happen that the card may be too big.|||all that matters is the slot type, and you have PCIx16 for both

good to go on the 8400 GS
